The Photo I Didn’t Delete

I have my lock screen photo montage setup to show me non stop pictures of my family.

My grandbaby dominates these photos pulled directly out of my photos app.

The other day a picture of her popped up from a day when she was very ill with an eye infection.

Her pretty little eye swollen shut.

The temptation is to go in and cut that photo from the feed.

It’s not Instagram or LinkedIn worthy after all.

In that moment, I decided I don’t want to do that.

We curate too closely so much of life now.

It’s too easy to remove friction.

To remove reminders of the ugly parts of life.

To skip the hard parts.

Last night, I saw a post.

A family I thought had everything, had lost someone, barely an adult, to God knows what.

Life is too fragile to curate the daylights out of it.

It’s too fleeting to pretend that we can control the things we can’t.

We are imperfect and flawed creatures.

We need one another.

In order to be full of CHIT we must be humble enough to pull in close to the imperfections.

To embrace the ugly sometimes.

The true heart of a life may only be revealed if we resist the urge to over curate the only one we get.
